Collierville's own Greg Clark, in his role as Director of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts, has been honored with the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (TRPA) Fellow Award—the highest professional accolade given by the organization. Acknowledging those who have significantly contributed to the parks and recreation profession in Tennessee, the TRPA Fellow Award is known for singling out individuals who surpass "above and beyond their normal and expected duties" in their field.
Since he began with the Town in 1997 and subsequent appointment as Director in 2016, Clark has steered Collierville’s parks through an era of considerable growth. Under him, the department has not only increased its recreational programming but has also augmented green spaces and put an emphasis on long-term planning for an expanding population. According to a statement obtained by ColliervilleTN.gov, Mayor Maureen Fraser praised Clark's leadership, saying, “This impressive recognition is a testament to his dedication to public service and his lasting impact on our town.”
This accolade comes in light of Clark's influence in fostering numerous capital projects, as well as establishing various special events that amplify Collierville’s state-wide esteem. Known for orchestrating the likes of the Independence Day Celebration and Christmas in Collierville events—alongside the Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade—Clark has also presided over the creation of Hinton Park and a host of recreation, educational, and arts programs.
“Greg’s dedication to Collierville and to the field of parks and recreation is truly exceptional,” Town Administrator Molly Mehner remarked, as ColliervilleTN.gov reported. She further noted, “This award reflects his leadership, his commitment to excellence, and the positive impact he’s had on our community over the years.” Clark was formally recognized at the TRPA's 74th Annual Conference, which took place from October 14-17, in Kingsport, Tennessee, celebrating his accomplishments amongst peers from across the state.
