In an effort to put money back into the pockets of Coloradans, the state has been identifying taxpayers who may have overlooked valuable tax credits. According to the Colorado Governor's Office, at least 20,000 individuals stand to benefit from around $8 million in unclaimed tax refunds.

"Its no secret that filing taxes is too costly and complicated, but the state is taking proactive action to ensure Coloradans get every dollar you deserve from your tax returns," Governor Polis stated, as per the Colorado Governor's Office. The Colorado Department of Revenue, alongside partners such as the New Practice Lab from New America and Gary Community Ventures, has utilized existing data to create prefilled forms for these taxpayers, facilitating a streamlined process to amend their returns online in under ten minutes.

Heidi Humphreys, Executive Director of the Department of Revenue, lauded the initiative for its dedication to efficiency and citizen service. "This effort is a great example of good governance and innovation," Humphreys said. "The Department of Revenue is willing to go the extra mile to help Coloradans save money and our actions demonstrate that," as obtained by the Colorado Governor's Office. In a similar vein, Representative Manny Rutinel expressed the impact of cutting through red tape to expedite refunds, asserting, "We are cutting through the clutter to help people get their refunds without the hassle. It is about putting money back in people’s pockets and making government work the way it should," as noted by the Colorado Governor's Office.
