In a significant move towards enhancing public health strategy and policy, Governor Jared Polis, along with Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera, has spearheaded Colorado's entry into the Governors' Public Health Alliance (GPHA). According to the Colorado Governor's Office, this new, bipartisan group aims to bolster preparedness, affordability, and health innovation by fostering collaboration among states.

"Every American deserves access to health care and this alliance will strengthen public health for everyone," Governor Polis stated, as per the Colorado Governor's Office. He emphasized the need for state coordination in light of uncertainties and diminished resources from Washington, D.C. Lt. Governor Primavera echoed these sentiments, citing her personal battle with cancer as a testament to the importance of robust public health systems that can, indeed, save lives and support families.

The GPHA is not a solitary effort; rather, it stands as a collective commitment with fifteen states and territories, including California, Delaware, and New York, among others. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) will play a crucial role by sharing Colorado's successful health initiatives and gleaning insights from partners. This group promises a platform for data exchange, technical collaboration, and a cohesive approach to emergency response and public-health guidance.

Supported by GovAct, the GPHA draws on the expertise of public health authorities such as Dr. Mandy Cohen and Dr. Anne Zink, lending credibility to its mission. Moreover, through the alliance, states like Colorado plan to deliver consistent messaging on emergent health threats, engage in cross-border data sharing with trusted partners and tackle regulatory public health issues such as vaccine policy, according to GovAct’s advisory board.
