It's that time of year again when the community gets to flex its creative muscle and put forth names that will emblazon the city's fleet of snowplows. From a pool of 128 submissions, the public works staff have sifted through the suggestions and settled on a top 10 list that ranges from the clever to the downright punny. Among the chosen contenders are entries like "Clearopathra" and "Austin Plowers," each vying to be the name that residents will see as they clear the streets this winter.
Residents have the opportunity to cast their votes for names that include "Snow Wars: Revenge of the Drift" and "Plowasaurus Rex." A playful twist on pop culture staples seems to be a prevailing theme this year, with “Blizzard of Oz” and "Fast and Flurrious" also making the cut. Everyone's invited to quickly place their votes before the deadline approaches to ensure their favorite name makes it onto the side of a snowplow. The voting survey will officially close on Oct. 13, as stated in the City of St. Lois Park's announcement.
The vote isn't just for bragging rights—it's a reflection of the community's spirit and its ability to come together and inject a bit of lightheartedness into the serious business of winter maintenance. Other whimsical names in the top 10 include "Thaw Enforcement" and "SLiP-not,” both of which are sure to draw a smile from those bundled up against the chill. And for those with a sweet tooth, there's "Pills-brrr-y Snow Boy," while "Buzz Iceclear" rounds out the list with a nod to the space frontier.
The winning name will not just be another label, but a moniker that the city's residents can point to with a chuckle or a nod of appreciation during the frosty months. The victor will be announced in the winter edition of "Park Perspective," the city's newsletter, and then shared on the city website as well as through GovDelivery emails and social media channels. Folks can find the full list and cast their vote by visiting the contest page.
