A suspicious device discovered at a Goodwill store in Covington, Tennessee, prompted an evacuation on Thursday. The store, located at 1655 Highway 51 South, and nearby businesses were cleared after an employee found what was initially believed to be a grenade, according to the Covington Tennessee Police Department's Facebook post.

The Shelby County Bomb Squad responded and safely removed the device, which was later identified as a non-lethal stun grenade typically used in law enforcement or military training. Security footage showed an older male donating the item, but his identity has not yet been determined.

Covington Police Chief Donna Turner thanked the Shelby County Bomb Squad for their assistance and asked that the person who made the donation come forward to aid in the investigation.

Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Covington Police Department at (901) 475-1261, through Facebook Messenger on the department’s official page, or via the City of Covington’s website.
