In a move to shed light on services and support for those affected by domestic violence, the City of Dallas launched its first-ever Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resource Fair this week. Hosted at the Dallas City Hall Plaza and Lobby, a variety of organizations stepped up, offering resources ranging from intervention to recovery. Notably, the fair saw contributions from local entities such as the Dallas Arboretum, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and Medical City Healthcare, aligning in support of domestic violence survivors.
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, Honorable Gay Donnell Willis, and Jessica Galleshaw, Deputy Director & Chief Opportunity Officer of Housing & Community Empowerment, stood at the forefront of the campaign. The city, in an effort to foster a safer and more empowering environment for its citizens, welcomed attendees from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday. A diverse lineup of nearly a dozen organizations provided information that could help empower those entangled in difficult domestic situations.
The collaboration between public officials and the private sector underscores the community's commitment to confronting the scourge of domestic violence head-on. As individuals and families grapple with these deeply personal struggles, the Resource Fair functioned as a beacon, guiding survivors towards support and healing. Assistance ranged from legal aid to counseling services, illustrating the multifaceted approach required to address such a complex issue.
In-kind supporters such as Reunion Tower, Bread Winners Café, and AT&T have also played their part in elevating the fair's reach. Their involvement signifies a widespread recognition of the problem and a willingness within the community to take a stand.
