A fire ripped through the Prospect Lane shopping center in Danville late Monday night, leaving several businesses closed and a community stunned. The blaze, which ignited shortly before 10 p.m. at 120-140 E. Prospect Ave., caused extensive damage to the structure, with an eyelash studio and hair salon bearing the brunt of the destruction.
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District reported to DanvilleSanRamon that their crews launched an aggressive fire attack and were able to "knock down the fire," preventing further spread. However, neighboring units were not spared from fire and water damage from firefighting efforts. The cause and point of origin of the fire are currently under investigation, and some damage was visible on the building's roof and patio overhang.
Authorities from the police department confirmed the lack of injuries and that no occupants were present when the incident was reported. To prevent misinformation, the Danville Police Department clarified in a statement obtained by their social media post that locations such as Danville Chocolates and the Veterans Memorial Building/Danville Senior Center were not affected, although initial online reports suggested otherwise.
Following the fire, the Town's Chief Building Official, along with fire personnel, deemed the building unfit for occupancy. This decision has caused the closure of six businesses in that particular building, as conveyed in the Danville Police Department's social media update. Shop owners and workers of the affected units, including Moda Mi clothing boutique, Lashify Studio Danville, South Austin Lane, and Taru Japanese Cuisine, were seen on-site the following morning alongside lingering fire crews. The smell of smoke, still prevalent nearly 12 hours after the fire was extinguished, caught the attention of passersby, including a field trip group from St. Isidore School.
