The National Weather Service in Denver is alerting Coloradans to a variety of weather hazards, including powerful wind gusts, impending freezing temperatures, and critical fire conditions. According to the National Weather Service, residents in the higher terrains can expect wind gusts up to 60 mph today, with even stronger gusts of up to 75 mph forecasted for Monday.
These robust winds have prompted the issuance of a Red Flag Warning, effective from this morning till 6 PM MDT this evening for parts of the Southern Front Range Foothills, Denver, Boulder metro areas, Palmer Divide, and the adjacent eastern plains. The NWS warns that conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread, thus outdoor burning or any activity that may produce a spark are strongly discouraged.
Moving into the night, a Freeze Warning will take effect from midnight through 8 AM MDT Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to plunge to chilling lows between 29 and 34 degrees in some areas including Boulder and parts of Denver metro. These frosty conditions could spell doom for crops and delicate vegetation not properly shielded from the cold. The warning, sourced from the National Weather Service Denver, also advises to safeguard outdoor plumbing to prevent damage.
In the midst of these warnings, the daily forecast for Denver offers a small respite with sunny skies and milder highs approaching the 60s and lows hovering just above freezing for most of the week. However, residents should brace for potential showers come Thursday afternoon. Wednesday night will see partly cloudy conditions, giving way to "a 30 percent chance of showers after noon" on Thursday, while Friday to Sunday promises clearer skies and higher temperatures with highs possibly reaching 71 degrees on Saturday.
