Denverites might want to keep their raincoats handy this week, with the National Weather Service forecasting a 30 percent chance of showers today post 9 a.m. The seemingly calm weather holds a high of a common 76 degrees with winds picking up this afternoon, reaching around 6 mph from the south. Tonight, the clouds are expected to part ways a bit, leaving us with partly cloudy skies and a low near 53 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather outlook for the rest of the week is a mix, erring on the sunny side. Sunday should gleam with sunlight and hit a comfortable 73 degrees. But hold onto your hats, winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Columbus Day will continue the trend with mostly sunny skies and a high near 65 degrees. A 20 percent chance of showers after midnight on Monday night could bring a little unpredictability to an otherwise serene forecast.
Now, don't pack away those winter coats yet. Come Tuesday, it's back to mostly sunny with highs circling 72 degrees. Wednesday seems to be the pick of the week with the mercury climbing up to a near 77 degrees, and continuing clear skies at night. But let there be no confusion, the temperatures will drop again by Thursday night with even a slight chance of showers thrown into the mix.
For those with a penchant for the mountains, the weather could throw a curveball. "A brief period of showers is expected over the mountains, with snow accumulations of up to 2 inches above 9000 feet, and up to 4 inches possible around Rabbit Ears Pass," the National Weather Service highlighted in their hazardous weather outlook. Adventure seekers heading that way should certainly be prepared for gusty winds and a quick switch from rain to snow.
