Two men, Shawquan Jackson and Tyreek Woodley, were apprehended by Dorchester officers on Sunday evening with loaded firearms and drugs. The suspects, a 35-year-old from Brookline and a 26-year-old from Dorchester, are facing multiple charges stemming from the incident which occurred at approximately 8:17 PM near 45 Alpha Road, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
When officers responded to reports of armed men, they found two suspects, Jackson and Woodley, trying to unlock a car at 34 Alpha Road. The property owner told police the men didn’t live there. As officers tried to handcuff them, they found a gun in Woodley’s jacket, and he tried to run but was quickly caught. Woodley’s jacket contained a stolen Glock 43 with a round in the chamber and extra ammunition. At the same time, Jackson was seen reaching for his fanny pack, which held a Glock 17 modified for automatic fire and a large amount of fentanyl, according to the Boston Police Department.
The police stated that both Woodley and Jackson were arrested and are anticipated to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including illegal firearm possession, resisting arrest, and drug trafficking. Specific charges for Woodley include carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, and firearm violations with previous violent drug crime convictions, Jackson, on the other hand, faces charges related to carrying a loaded machine gun and distributing Class B and trafficking Class A substances according to the official announcement made by the Boston Police Department.
Community safety is once again a major concern in Dorchester as incidents like this raise new urgency around gun control and the opioid crisis. Both suspects, who have prior records, now face a legal system dealing with issues of repeat offenses, public safety, and neighborhood crime. Their upcoming court cases will test how well current laws and rehabilitation efforts balance punishment with prevention, as per the Boston Police Department.
