The Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) has ended its meticulous search for a new president, announcing Dr. Alycia Marshall as the one taking the helm. Dr. Marshall, who served as the interim president prior to this official appointment, has been praised for her focus on student success and proven leadership abilities. According to the institution's announcement, Board of Trustees Chair Harold T. Epps expressed confidence in her vision to lead CCP into the future. Epps stated, "After a nationwide search, it has become evident that Dr. Marshall demonstrates the clear vision and outstanding leadership needed to guide our institution forward."
Dr. Marshall's previous role at the college as Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Success saw her overseeing key departments such as Academic Affairs and Student Support and Engagement. Her tenure at CCP was preceded by a commendable career at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland, where she climbed the ranks from a mathematics professor to an associate vice president. Cherelle Parker, mayor of Philadelphia, extended her congratulations to Dr. Marshall, adding, according to the Community College of Philadelphia, "CCP is a beacon of hope and economic opportunity for our students and for everyone seeking to advance their pathways to better lives."
With an impressive academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Bowie State University, Dr. Marshall's foundation as an educator is perceived as a critical asset for her presidency. Her alma mater for her undergraduate studies was the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Reflecting on her new appointment, Dr. Marshall shared her honor in leading CCP. "Community College of Philadelphia truly feels like home," she told CCP's newsroom. "Every day, I witness the extraordinary dedication of our faculty and staff who work tirelessly to ensure our students are supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed."
CCP’s Board of Trustees managed a four-month presidential search, involving a committee formed by board members, faculty, staff, students, and external partners. The process was comprehensive, with four finalists engaging in forums on the College’s Main Campus earlier this month. Details regarding the celebration of Dr. Marshall's appointment are expected to be announced soon. Her comprehensive biography and accomplishments can be found on the college's official website.
