An early morning blaze on Oct. 9 has left businesses at the Caribou Village Shopping Center in Nederland, Colorado, reeling from significant damage. The fire was first reported by a Boulder County Sheriff's Deputy patrolling the area at around 3:41 a.m. and was soon after engaged by multiple fire departments. According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, residents were promptly evacuated from the vicinity as firefighters battled the flames.
The fire, which rapidly consumed a two-story structure housing several businesses, caused an evacuation order to be issued at 4:28 a.m. for residents near Barker Reservoir. The order was lifted, giving an all-clear by 9:47 a.m., allowing locals to return home. During the aftermath, residents of the Big Springs area were advised to reroute their travels via Peakview Road. Despite the severity of the fire, the Carousel of Happiness incurred only minor damage, and other establishments, like Train Cars Coffee and Kava and B&F Mountain Market, escaped major harm.
Collaboration among emergency responders was pivotal in addressing the crisis, with Nederland Fire Rescue, Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Timberline Fire Protection District, and several others joining forces. Currently, the Sheriff's Office is cooperating with ATF, CBI, and DFPC to probe into the origins and causes of this incident. At this juncture, there have been no reported injuries associated with the fire.
