Curious about the inner workings of the Eden Prairie Police Department? Seniors in the area are now invited to explore this firsthand. The EPPD has launched its Citizens Academy for Seniors program, showcasing the ins and outs of daily operations, including traffic safety and the intriguing world of SWAT and K-9 teams. According to an EPPD announcement, the classes are scheduled to run across four weeks, starting late November.
The experience is designed not only to inform but also to bridge the gap between the police force and older community members. Sessions are planned for November 19 and 26, December 3 and 10, all on Wednesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Senior Center. One session promises to quickly familiarize participants with the risks and realities of DWIs, illustrating the EPPD's commitment to public safety. Registration for the academy is currently open, but spots are limited, so interested seniors need to act quickly.
This initiative is backed by the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund, indicating a community-based approach to law enforcement. The detailed curriculum includes topics like investigations and internet safety, areas particularly relevant to seniors navigating the complexities of the digital age. On the final day, the academy celebrates with a lunch for all attendees, providing a chance for conversations and connections to be made away from the formalities of police work.
Those interested can register by contacting Officer Jason Hunt directly via email or phone call. The EPPD blog post notes that all registrations must be completed by November 4. It's a unique chance for the seniors of Eden Prairie to get to quickly know their local law enforcement officers and gain insights into the everyday challenges and procedures of policing. The program also allows the EPPD to potentially earn the trust and understanding of a key demographic within their community.
