Oklahoma Representative Erick Harris of Edmond has been appointed to the Uniform Law Commission (ULC), according to an announcement by House Speaker Kyle Hilbert of Bristow. The appointment will allow Harris to contribute to efforts aimed at improving consistency and clarity in state laws nationwide.
As per the Oklahoma House of Representatives website, the ULC, established in the late 19th century, works to create uniform laws that states can adopt to modernize and align their legal systems. Its scope covers various areas, including business, technology, and other evolving legal issues, helping reduce inconsistencies among states without federal intervention.
Harris expressed appreciation for the appointment noting his commitment to strengthening state laws while maintaining alignment with constitutional principles. His legal background includes practice in Texas, Oklahoma federal district courts, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Speaker Hilbert commended Harris for his sound judgment and understanding of complex legal matters, emphasizing confidence in his ability to represent Oklahoma effectively in national discussions.
As part of the ULC, Harris will join commissioners in reviewing, drafting, and refining proposed uniform acts. These proposals are presented to states for potential adoption and are regularly updated during the commission’s annual meetings.
