Senator Kristen Thompson of Edmond has been recognized by the Oklahoma District Attorneys Council with the 2025 Bulldog Award for her work in advancing public safety and child protection legislation. The award honors legislators who demonstrate strong commitment to policies that enhance community safety.
As per the Oklahoma Senate release, Thompson authored Senate Bill 630, which holds school contractors, such as security personnel, to the same legal standards as school employees in cases involving serious offenses. She also led Senate Bill 553, requiring child abuse reporting training as part of educator professional development and establishing procedures to prevent accused educators from transferring between schools without disclosure.
Additionally, Thompson served as the Senate author of House Bill 1935, which extends the statute of limitations for failing to report child abuse, allowing more time for accountability.
Thompson previously received the Liberty Bell Award from the District Attorneys Council in 2024. Her recent recognition reflects her continued legislative work to strengthen protections for children, families, and schools across Oklahoma.
