El Paso County officers underwent a rigorous test of their physical stamina and psychological resilience this morning, as they tried out for spots on the sheriff’s department Special Response Team. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte reported on the day's events, noting that the tryouts drew participants from the Downtown Detention Facility and the Jail Annex. The exercises were designed to evaluate candidates on crucial attributes such as endurance, teamwork, and mental fortitude.
In a display of solidarity and strength, officers stepped up to the plate, each eager to prove their capacity to handle the high-pressure situations typical for the unit. According to Ugarte's social media post, the tryouts measure the physical ability and psychological toughness required for the high-intensity role, which may involve dealing with crises within the correctional facilities. "Great job to everyone who stepped up to take on the challenge!" lauded Ugarte, recognizing the officers' efforts and determination.
