In a move to standardize its appearance and symbolize its commitment to justice, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is set to transition to a new uniform, badge, and patch, as announced by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. The shift, aimed to foster a sense of unity across the department, marks a significant change from the current practice where deputies and detention officers sport different uniforms and badges.

The upcoming single-look uniform will be an all-navy blue color scheme, clearly intended to quickly and simply identify the office's personnel. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, deputies and detention officers will soon start to wear the same new badge and shoulder patch. The phased transition, expected to span two to three years, is crafted to seamlessly integrate into the Sheriff’s Office's annual uniform replacement cycle, effectively ensuring no negative impact on the county's financial planning.

The revamped shoulder patch will feature an image of the El Paso County Courthouse, selected for its symbolic representation of the legal system and as a reminder of the Sheriff's Office's duty to uphold justice. "This emblem underscores the values of accountability, trust, and equal justice for all," a social media post by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. During the shift, the public may notice officers in either the existing or the new uniforms until the changeover reaches its completion.
