El Paso police have taken into custody a man linked to a recent kidnapping scare at a local credit union. The incident occurred just days ago, on the 21st of October, at the Government Employees Credit Union (GECU) located at 9435 Dyer St. Reports indicate that the suspect behaved erratically before taking an employee hostage, as described by the El Paso Police Department.
According to witness accounts, Luis Fernando Colomo entered the credit union and appeared nervous. He later claimed to a GECU staff member that he was being followed by armed individuals. The events escalated rapidly when Colomo seized the employee, suggested he possessed a weapon, and forced the employee into an office before attempting to move them outside, purportedly to use as a “shield”.
The El Paso Police Department stated that the victim managed to break away and seek help. Police were summoned to the location, where they promptly located and apprehended Colomo close to the scene. He has been charged with the felony of aggravated kidnapping, Use As Shield/Hostage. The link between Colomo's prior encounters with law enforcement and this recent kidnapping charge raises questions. On October 10, Colomo was arrested on an unrelated warrant for assaulting a security officer and was released on a personal recognizance bond.
