Calling all families and literature-loving hikers: the City of Janesville Recreation Division is rolling out an innovative way to combine reading, the outdoors, and a bit of mystery with its new StoryWalk® Scavenger Hunt in Sheiffer Park. As reported by the City of Janesville website, this engaging event starts at the trailhead on Huntington Street and Avery Lane and will be accessible throughout the month.
The concept is simple: a children’s book, "How Do Dinosaurs Say Trick or Treat!" is broken down and displayed page by page on a series of signposts along a scenic trail. Designed to encourage early literacy and physical activity, participants who are navigating through the natural beauty of Sheiffer Park will also stumble upon a series of letters meant to be unscrambled. According to the City's announcement, the mission of StoryWalk® is to inspire "time spent in nature."
But the real kicker for adventurous souls? The scattered and scrambled letters hold a secret message, and those keen enough to decipher it are invited to send in their findings. Those who do so through the Janesville Parks & Recreation's Facebook page or by email will automatically be entered into a draw, the prize being a basket packed with undisclosed, yet presumably delightful, items.
More details about the StoryWalk® Scavenger Hunt, including how to enter the drawing and the specific trail to follow, are available on the official City of Janesville website.
