An early morning incident on Interstate 85 South near Beatties Ford Road claimed the life of an individual today, as confirmed by the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency (Medic). Details provided by Queen City News indicate that the emergency call brought paramedics to the scene around 2:25 a.m., where they pronounced the person deceased upon arrival, noting that no other injuries necessitated hospital transport.
The event not only drew paramedics, but also activity from local authorities who investigated the scene, resulting in significant traffic obstructions that were reported by WCNC Charlotte to have caused the southbound lanes past Exit 37 to remain closed for nearly 2.5 hours, following the crash that was reported around 1:15 a.m., with WCNC noting, "Officials closed the southbound lanes past Exit 37 for approximately 2.5 hours while emergency crews responded to the scene." and traffic congestion continued until the lanes reopened.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation told WCNC Charlotte that the closure affected the stretch of highway near mile marker 36, in the vicinity of the Brookshire Boulevard exit, while WSOC-TV highlighted that the interstate section in question was cleared and had reopened by approximately 5 a.m., based on information found at their site WSOCTV.com.
