The Fernandina Beach Police Department has announced its first partnership with the Beyond School Walls program, in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida. The program connects students from Fernandina Beach High School with mentors from local law enforcement and, more recently, the fire department.
According to the Fernandina Beach Police Department's social media announcement, the first session of this mentorship program was hosted by the Fire Station #2, where students met with their mentors for the first time, the aim of the program is to provide youth with real-world knowledge support and career-related advice.
The program is based on the belief that mentorship can play a vital role in shaping futures, with the local police aiming to support high school students. The police department stated, "It was time well spent with these exceptional young men and women," referring to the impact of the initiative on participants. These mentorship opportunities offer students access to insights and support that may not be available within the classroom.
