The City of Flagstaff has taken a proactive stance in addressing the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives crisis with an upcoming community gathering titled "Voices Unheard: Breaking the Silence." Slated for Wednesday, Oct. 22, the event will unfold at the Coconino Center for the Arts, located at 2300 N Fort Valley Rd, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Open to the public and free of charge, "Voices Unheard" aims to educate Northern Arizona residents on the harrowing issue and explore the underlying factors that contribute to violence, stalking, and harassment. The City of Flagstaff, as reported by the city’s official announcement, encourages participants to register in advance through the dedicated website.
In addition to the main event, two compelling films will be showcased at the Coconino Center for the Arts. The screenings are designed to provide a deeper context and understanding of the issues at hand. "The Shapeshifting Defense" will be presented on Monday, Oct. 20, followed by "She Cried That Day" on Tuesday, Oct. 21, both commencing at 5:30 p.m.
The events, offering a confluence of prevention, strength, and healing, have garnered support from the City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, and Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth.
