The inaugural Fleet Week Houston has been postponed to 2026 due to complications tied to the prolonged federal government shutdown. The event was originally scheduled for November 5–12 and the delay was confirmed through coordination between the City of Houston and U.S. Navy leadership.
Mayor John Whitmire said he was disappointed by the change but affirmed the city’s commitment to quality, stating “I want the city’s first fleet week to be an exceptional experience for everyone,” according to Click2Houston. Officials are now working with partners to identify new dates once shutdown-related hurdles are resolved.
The steering committee, made up of local agencies, the Port of Houston and military leaders, is rescheduling the event and will announce new dates when confirmed. KHOU states that the city and the Fleet Week Houston Steering Committee say they are committed to an event that “appropriately honors service members and strengthens community-military connections.” Preparations are continuing while the shutdown creates uncertainty.
