The City of Fort Worth has appointed Dr. Sana Syed as Chief Communications Officer, a move that promises to steer the Communications & Public Engagement Department (CPE) into a new phase of strategic alignment and enhanced public service. The city confirmed that Syed, who has previously served in an interim capacity since May, will officially start her new role on October 20.
With a career spanning nearly 25 years, Dr. Syed has been recognized for her breadth of experience in public relations, public affairs, and strategic communication across diverse sectors. According to the city's announcement, Syed's career not only includes leadership roles such as co-founding The Marilla Group and serving as vice president for Allyn Media, but it also encompasses a journalism and broadcasting background, equipping her with a nuanced approach to storytelling in government transparency.
City Manager Jay Chapa emphasized the importance of communication in municipal governance and expressed confidence in Syed's capabilities. "Clear, consistent communication with residents is key to Fort Worth’s continued success," Chapa stated, per the City of Fort Worth. "Sana grew up in Fort Worth and knows the City. She brings the leadership, creativity and experience needed to strengthen our citywide voice, elevate public engagement and ensure we are prepared for both everyday communication and moments of crisis."
The CPE, under Syed's leadership, is poised for significant development. The department has undergone a restructuring that includes the establishment of three core divisions: The Strategic Hub for Outreach and Production (SHOP), the Public Information Office (PIO), and Customer Care. Chapa stressed these new structures' role in enhancing the city's engagement with residents.
