In a stark courtroom revelation, 43-year-old Richard Vincent Ramos of Georgetown was handed down a 90-year prison sentence by a Williamson County jury for the aggravated sexual assault of multiple children, a decision rendered on October 8 and documented by CBS Austin and FOX 7 Austin. The severity of the sentence comes after the jury's less than hour-long deliberation, concluding a trial where Ramos dismissed his court-appointed counsel and instead represented himself, facing his victims directly during testimony.
According to reports by CBS Austin, the abuse surfaced following a 6-year-old victim's report of physical abuse, leading to a disclosure by a 10-year-old that Ramos had inappropriately touched her. These declarations prompted another victim, along with one additional child, to report the longstanding abuse to their families and law enforcement; thus shedding light on a sinister series of events. Further testimony revealed that one of the victims was sexually assaulted on various occasions over a span of five years, commencing when she was merely 7 years old at Ramos' residence, and also in California, within a domestic space he shared with his parents.
The Williamson County District Attorney's Office presented the jury with evidence against Ramos, which included accounts of sexual and physical abuse perpetrated against four children and the possession of child pornography on his device, portraying children of similar age to his victims, with "Justice has been delivered," being echoed by District Attorney Shawn Dick in a statement obtained by CBS Austin. The ferocity of the crimes was highlighted by Dick, who stressed that Ramos utilized a position of trust to exploit the vulnerabilities of these children for years.
Post-trial, in what can only be described as raw disclosures filled with emotion and the anticipation of a healing yet to come, the family of a victim addressed the court discussing their journey of regaining wholeness, stating an intent to advocate for other survivors of child abuse; it was a testament to courage and a step toward empowerment in the wake of unimaginable trauma, as relayed by FOX 7 Austin. Apart from his prison term, Ramos must now register as a sex offender for the entirety of his life and cannot entertain the possibility of parole until a minimum of 30 years has been served, ensuring a substantial portion of his future is spent behind bars.
