Germantown locals looking to directly impact their community governance have a chance to do it, as the city is opening up applications for residents wishing to serve on various city commissions. According to the City of Germantown, these positions will begin their terms at the start of the new year.
With the application period already running and set to close on November 30, interested parties should hustle. The city's taken a step forward in modernizing the process – it's online only now, looking to minimize the errors inherent in a paper-based system. Appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen after a mid-December decision-making process, applicants will get their results by the month's end. First-timers can throw their hat in the ring at Germantown-TN.gov/Commissions. On the receiving side, existing commission members reapplying should have received an individualized link last month.
It's not just a title; these commissions work alongside city officials advising on key policy areas from development and planning to beautification and transportation. The Mayor of Germantown, Mike Palazzolo, emphasized this in a statement, saying, per the City of Germantown, "Our citizen commissioners and board members share their intellectual capital and professional expertise in helping develop City programming and providing guidance with implementing policy." They're charged with reflecting the community voice while aiding in shaping policy.
