Gilbert has taken a step towards sustainability by introducing Arizona's first monitored donation containers, in collaboration with Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona. These high-tech bins, designed to encourage the recycling of gently used items, have been installed at Discovery Park and Cactus Yards, targeting a decrease in landfill waste and promoting community giving.

The solar-powered containers are equipped with 24/7 surveillance and donor safety lighting, a move that not only makes donating easier but also safer. This venture is no cost to the town, acknowledging a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and resource conservation. Gilbert's mayor, Scott Anderson, expressed excitement about the project, stating, "It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community members to actively serve one another. Gilbert is always seeking partnerships to enhance our ability to serve sustainably, and we are very welcoming to something like this," according to a Gilbert Town Hall official statement.

Residents of Gilbert are now able to donate a variety of items, including clothing, shoes, electronics, and toys, at any time, thanks to the around-the-clock access. This convenience is coupled with the efficiency of the bins themselves, which alert staff when full, thus ensuring an uninterrupted service.

The selected locations for the donation containers, 2214 E Pecos Rd at Discovery Park and 4536 E Elliot Rd at Cactus Yards, were chosen strategically to ensure they were within the community's reach. Each bin features three chutes, simplifying the donation process for Gilbert's citizens.
