
The Globe-Miami area, recently hit by flash floods that left three individuals dead, is now anticipating further rainfall, with many locals still entrenched in recovery efforts. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the community's resilience is being tested as they prepare for more severe weather conditions, amid ongoing repair and cleanup initiatives.
Gila County Emergency Operations' Marcy McMacken indicated that while there is a palpable sense of fear among residents, preparation efforts such as filling and distributing sandbags are in progress, as reported by the same source, William Luster's business, Salina’s Smoke Street BBQ, suffered extensive damage during the previous flooding, his sentiments echoed by fellow Globe resident James Martin Jr, both of whom highlighted the community's dedication to rebuilding and standing strong together, despite the looming threat of further inclement weather.
In addition to the distribution of sandbags, efforts extend to aiding the elderly with supplies, as told by Janette Herrera and Trina Bunger from Citizens for Better Community to FOX 10 Phoenix; this support showcases a region united in the face of adversity. As further noted by Herrera, the community's spirit of resilience suggests that, irrespective of the challenges imposed by nature, there is a collective belief in eventual recovery and normalcy.
Meanwhile, after the previous flooding event, at least three fatalities were confirmed, with details of the deceased provided by authorities and Arizona's Family, amid ongoing search and rescue operations, a missing man, previously unaccounted for, was successfully located and found safe, Globe's fire chief noted the numerous rescues during the flooding, admitting the situation could have taken an even more tragic turn.
The local administration, led by Globe Mayor Al Gameros, expressed empathy towards the affected businesses and resolved to secure state and federal funding for recovery, during this critical phase; Arizona Public Service, recognizing the heartache permeating its customer base, has pledged financial support, as announced by Ted Geisler, president and CEO, marking a corporate contribution to the recovery process, which includes the setting up of a one-stop disaster assistance center to streamline aid to those impacted by the disaster.
