The window for securing a permit to chop down your own Christmas tree in Golden Gate State Park this year opens up tomorrow, November 1st. Anyone interested in participating in the annual holiday tradition has until November 15th to apply for the lottery, which grants the chance to select and cut down a tree in designated areas of the park.
According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the $35 permit fee is levied only if an application is successful in the draw. Potential tree cutters can apply for the permit on the CPW Shop website by navigating to the "Visit a Park - Special Events - Christmas Tree Draw" section. After the application window closes on the 15th, 250 fortunate winners will be notified.
The tree cutting event is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., where successful applicants can bring down their chosen tree using hand tools only, as power tools are not permitted. Participants will need to carry their selected trees back to their vehicles from the Nott Creek trailhead zone.
