Governor Greg Abbott has activated the Texas Division of Emergency Management in preparation for a storm system expected to bring thunderstorms, tornadoes, and flooding across the state. "Texas stands ready to deploy all emergency resources needed to help local officials respond to potential severe weather across the state," he said, urging residents to make emergency plans and stay informed, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
"State and local emergency response partners are actively monitoring weather conditions and are on standby to provide all necessary resources to protect Texans and our communities," the Office of the Texas Governor added. Resources on alert include swiftwater rescue teams, urban search and rescue units, medical support packages, and specialized vehicles to address hazards such as hail, strong winds, and flash flooding.
Texas agencies are preparing for storms through various departments, including the Texas Department of Transportation for road monitoring and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service for agricultural needs. Resources are in place to address power outages and natural gas supply issues. Residents are advised to have an emergency kit and follow updates on TexasReady.gov and TexasFlood.org, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
