Gov. Greg Abbott has once again tapped Brett Flagg to serve on the board of the Texas Mutual Insurance Company, extending his stewardship until July 1, 2031. Texas Mutual—known as a bastion of stability and competitive workers’ compensation insurance—plays a pivotal role in ensuring Texas employers have access to necessary coverage, while also acting as a safety net insurer of last resort.
Flagg’s legal career spans over four decades, and he’s not just any attorney. He owns the Flagg Law Group, PC, in Dallas and has been a steadfast member of the Texas Bar Association for an impressive 40 years. His expertise will continue to guide the insurance giant, which strives to prevent workplace injuries and diligently works to alleviate their impact when they do occur. According to a statement by the Governor's office, Abbott's decision underscores Flagg's apparent qualifications and experience in the field.
Beyond his work at the law group and involvement with Texas Mutual, Flagg is ingrained in various community and religious organizations. He holds positions on the Board of Directors for e3 Partners Ministry, the Board of Elders at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, and contributes to Insight for Living Ministries. Not one to shy away from educational pursuits, he also previously chaired the Board of Trustees for the Trinity Christian Academy in Addison.
Flagg's educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from Baylor University, along with a Master of Laws (LLM) from Georgetown University School of Law. His appointment reflects both an expectation for continuity and a vote of confidence in the legal acumen he brings to the table. It is this combination of his legal prowess and his evident commitment to service that likely made him a clear choice for the governor. His role with Texas Mutual ensures that the insurer remains a key player in supporting the state’s workforce with vital protections.
