Governor Greg Abbott has declared October 13-17, as Chamber of Commerce Week in Texas, as announced in a statement on the state government's official website. In his announcement, Abbott highlighted the critical part that chambers of commerce play in not just supporting but also in bolstering the economic landscape of Texas. According to his statement, "Texas’ thriving entrepreneurial spirit is the driving force behind our state’s economic success," emphasizing the interplay between local chambers and the wider economic achievements of the state.
The Governor credited the chambers of commerce with being significant to Texas workers and small business owners, connecting them with resources essential for business growth, expansion, and workforce development opportunities. These institutions serve as a keystone in fortifying businesses of every size across Texas. Interestingly, with over 3.5 million small businesses in Texas—that's 99.8% of all its businesses—chambers of commerce not only support nearly half of all working Texans but also prop up the state's identity as an economic giant.
It's no small feat that earlier in the year, Governor Abbott heralded Texas' triumph in securing the Governor’s Cup for the 13th consecutive time, marking the 21st win in its history. This accolade, as awarded by Site Selection and noted on the state's website, recognizes states that excel in job creation through business relocations and expansions, affirming Texas' reputation as a force to reckon with in economic matters.
The observance of Chamber of Commerce Week is more than a ceremonial nod; it underscores the role local chambers play in shaping a larger, more prosperous Texas. As Governor Abbott puts it, "The important work of these chambers strengthens local businesses of all sizes and helps build a bigger, better Texas." Even as the state celebrates this week dedicated to the chambers of commerce, it's evident that their contributions have a lasting impact on the state's economy and the communities they serve.
