Recently, three officers from the Hawai‘i Island Police Department were appointed for their exemplary work. The honor, coming from the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai‘i, puts the spotlight on individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty to protect and serve their community, as relayed by the Hawai‘i Police Department.
At a ceremony in Hilo, Officer Blane Kenolio was honored for his sharp detective work in July, when he found a stolen car that led to the recovery of stolen parts and the arrest of a repeat offender. Officer Christian Madera was recognized for August for rescuing an 18-year-old woman from a domestic abuse situation, showing compassion and dedication. In September, Officer Dallas Arce was commended for his quick actions in handling a domestic disturbance that uncovered drugs and solving a burglary case, reinforcing trust in everyday police work, as reported by the Hawai‘i Police Department.
Interim Police Chief Reed Mahuna, in statements obtained by the Hawai‘i Police Department, commended the trio: “Each of these officers represents the professionalism, courage, and compassion that define our department. Their initiative and dedication, both on and off duty, reflect the true spirit of public service and the difference that one determined officer can make in the lives of others.” Such recognitions not only serve as a pat on the back for the officers involved but they articulate to the public the individual deeds skating under the collective endeavor of the police force.
Each month, the Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai‘i honors an officer of the month, based on nominations from supervisors in Area I, which covers Hāmākua to Puna. Officers Kenolio, Madera, and Arce are now eligible for the Officer of the Year award, recognizing their outstanding work in a challenging profession, as per the Hawaiʻi Police Department.
