A string of shootings in Hawthorne this week has left one man dead and another injured, authorities reported. In the early hours of Wednesday, Oct. 15, Hawthorne police discovered a male victim, in his early 40s, with fatal gunshot wounds on the 14100 block of Doty Avenue, according to KTLA. The incident, which occurred just before 2:15 a.m., quickly escalated when police found another person holding a firearm near the scene.
The person armed with the gun was detained for questioning as a suspect, and a second victim managed to reach a hospital and inform police about his injuries, which were not life-threatening. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which took the lead in the investigation, indicated that the deceased had just arrived at his residence before the fatal altercation, as reported by the Daily News. The detainee and the victim were from neighboring housing complexes, with the former residing in an apartment and the latter in a single-family house.
Officials from both the Hawthorne Police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have not suggested that there is any ongoing threat to the community in the wake of these events. Inglewood Avenue, where a 35-year-old man named Anthony Jackson Jr. was killed. In that earlier incident, a person of interest was detained after Jackson, who was said to be watching football with friends, was fatally shot by an individual purportedly thrown out of the venue earlier that evening, as "CBS Los Angeles" reported. However, authorities have yet to confirm any connection between the two separate shootings.
