A postal worker died after a pickup truck hit his mail vehicle on Antoine Drive near Veterans Memorial on Saturday. The driver, identified as 50-year-old Jose Humberto Romero, has been charged with intoxication manslaughtern. The 58-year-old postal worker was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died, as per Click2Houston

Deputies said Romero may have been involved in a minor hit-and-run before the fatal crash. He was driving south on the 11700 block of Antoine Drive when he lost control of his truck at high speed, according to Sgt. Villacorta in a statement to ABC13. The victim was identified by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as Steven Marks, who had worked in the community for more than 20 years. Neighbors said he was well-known in the area.

Romero was found intoxicated at the crash scene and is facing a first-degree felony charge under a recent Texas law because of a prior DWI conviction in 2023. The crash killed postal worker Marks. Neighbors shared memories, saying, “I'm going to miss giving him the Long Island tea that he liked to get for Christmas. I'm going to really miss handing that to him,” and “He's going to always be in our hearts. He's somebody that we cared for,” as reported by ABC13. Romero has been booked into the Harris County jail.
