The City of Jacksonville has launched an affordable housing transparency dashboard to track the development of below-market-rate housing. The online tool monitors progress on workforce, affordable, and low-income housing units across the city. Since Mayor Donna Deegan took office, nearly 6,000 multi-family units have been planned, begun construction, or reached completion, according to the City of Jacksonville.
The dashboard provides information on various housing developments, including the developers involved and estimated timelines for completion. Each project is categorized by its current stage, from planning to construction to completion. The tool features an interactive map and neighborhood-specific data, with updates scheduled on a monthly basis. Future updates will also include data on single-family homes built below market rate. In the official announcement, Mayor Deegan noted, “Housing isn't just about walls and a roof,” emphasizing its role in providing opportunity and stability to Jacksonville residents.
Joshua Hicks, the Affordable Housing Director, highlighted the dashboard's role in providing clear information about affordable housing development. He stated in the official announcement, "These numbers need to — and will — keep growing as we work with public and private partners to increasing the supply of affordable homes," and outlined plans to expand housing stability programs and develop solutions for affordability.
Meanwhile, Chief Information Officer Wanyonyi Kendrick highlighted the dashboard’s role in increasing transparency, aligning with Mayor Deegan’s goals to support affordable housing initiatives. The use of data visualization provides clear information about Jacksonville’s progress. Workforce housing is defined for incomes between 81% and 120% of the area median income (AMI), affordable housing for those between 31% and 80% AMI, and low-income housing for those at 30% AMI or below.
The dashboard is one part of Mayor Deegan’s Transparency Dashboards, a collection of more than 20 digital tools that provide residents and stakeholders with immediate access to important information across various city services. Developed by the City’s Technology Solutions Department, this initiative includes data on public infrastructure, literacy programs, animal shelter status, and more.
