The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has taken to social media in their latest effort to apprehend a repeat shoplifting suspect. In their recurring "Wanted Wednesday" post, they've featured a man referred to as a "side-eye swiper," who has been reported for stealing from a convenience store on Beach Boulevard.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, the suspect has been caught on camera on multiple occasions, wearing his "signature black polo and grey backpack." Surveillance shows him selecting beverages without paying and subsequently pedaling away. The police have humorously dubbed his actions as being akin to training for the "Tour de Theft."
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office post elaborates, "You looked right at the camera and gave us a suspicious side-eye, as if you knew this was becoming your tradition." It details how the suspect takes two drinks, skips the paying part, and then leaves the establishment. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office notes the recurring nature of these incidents and expresses their intent to stop the "sip swiper."
The authorities are encouraging the public to assist by offering information that could identify the suspect. Additionally, they have included an incentive, suggesting that tips could potentially lead to a cash reward. All of this is part of an initiative to turn the "flat situation into some fizzing cash."
