Folsom's search for an interim fire chief has concluded with a seasoned veteran at the helm. The city's management announced Jason Solak as the new Interim Fire Chief, effective as of October 7. The appointment fills the gap left by Fire Chief Ken Cusano's retirement and comes with a promise of seasoned leadership in a period of transition. Solak, with a storied 30-year tenure in fire service, steps up to the role after serving as Deputy Fire Chief for the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department.
Before his latest appointment, Solak's career spanned multiple departments, including a period with the U.S. Forest Service, the Rocklin Fire Department, and the Benicia Fire Department. In addition to his domestic roles, Solak has been a key player on a national level as both a Task Force Leader and Heavy Rigging Specialist with FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue Team, California Task Force 4, since 2003. His expertise took him across the country, aiding major disaster recovery efforts. Adding to his extensive resume, Solak also imparts his knowledge as an adjunct instructor at Las Positas College and serves as a Registered Instructor with the State of California on various fire and rescue disciplines.
"Chief Solak brings a wealth of experience, strong leadership, and steady guidance to the department during this transition," City Manager Bryan Whitemyer remarked. "He leads with integrity and professionalism and is deeply committed to protecting the safety and well-being of the Folsom community." His words reflect a confidence in Solak's ability to shepherd the Folsom Fire Department forward. Indeed, Solak has over two decades of personal investment in the Folsom community, having made it his home back in 2001.
For Solak, his new position resonates on both a professional and personal level. "It’s an honor and privilege to serve the community I’ve called home for more than 20 years," said Interim Fire Chief Jason Solak. His statement echoes a deep connection to the city he will now be tasked with protecting. "The Folsom Fire Department has a proud legacy of service and excellence. Together, we’ll continue to uphold that tradition and deliver the highest level of public safety services to our residents," he added, outlining his commitment to a department established in 1857. According to a recent announcement. Beyond fire suppression and emergency medical response, the Folsom Fire Department plays a crucial role in water and technical rescue, hazardous materials response, prevention, and public education across 30 square miles.
With Solak at the helm, the Folsom Fire Department seems poised to continue its legacy, adapting to the demands of a growing population that now stands at about 92,577 residents.
