The Johnson City Police Department will have new leadership on November 4. Deputy Chief Scott Jenkins will retire, and Mike Adams, who has served with the department for nearly 25 years, will take his place. Chief Billy Church, who is also retiring, said, “Deputy Chief Jenkins has been an invaluable part of this department, and his commitment to public safety will leave a lasting mark on our city.” Eric Dougherty will be sworn in as the new chief the same day, according to the City of Johnson City.

Adams has served in several leadership roles within the Johnson City Police Department, including field training officer, director of the 1st Judicial District Drug Task Force, and positions in both the patrol and criminal investigation units. He is also a Marine Corps veteran and a graduate of the Southeastern Leadership Academy. “It is an honor to be selected as deputy chief of the Johnson City Police Department,” Adams said in the city’s announcement. “Stepping into the role is both a privilege and a responsibility I take very seriously,” as reported by the City of Johnson City.

Chief-to-be Dougherty commented on Adams’ appointment, noting his record and future role. “Our Department's strength comes from its people, and Mike Adams embodies the very best of who we are," Dougherty said. The City of Johnson City news release noted that Dougherty and Adams are expected to continue the department’s commitment to public safety and service.
