Two decades after a violent sexual assault in Lake County, Florida, a breakthrough in DNA technology has led to an arrest. The case had gone cold after a 65-year-old woman was attacked in her home on October 22, 2007. Despite the initial collection of DNA evidence, the perpetrator remained unidentified due to limitations in technology at that time, as reported by ClickOrlando.
In a significant advancement, Parabon NanoLabs utilized genetic genealogy techniques to create a predictive profile of the suspect’s appearance. The generated lead pointed to Ohio resident Larry Franklin Tucker, who matched the collected DNA profile from the scene. Tucker has been charged with sexual battery, occupied burglary to a dwelling with battery, and kidnapping following his extradition to Lake County, as detailed by FOX 35 Orlando.
While Tucker's criminal history is still under review, authorities are assessing whether he may be implicated in additional crimes. The full scope of Tucker's past actions and the current legal process being brought against him have not been publicly disclosed. Lake County deputies are actively inviting anyone with information about Tucker to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.
