A fire that erupted on Saturday in Lakewood, Colorado, has left three families without homes, with the extent of the damage impacting four apartment units, as reported by CBS News Colorado. West Metro Fire Rescue responded promptly to the scene near South Beech Drive and West Alameda Parkway, struggling against windy conditions that rapidly spread the blaze. The incident was visible from several miles away, casting a plume of smoke that served as a stark testament to the fire's severity.
The source of the inferno, according to KDVR, was an unattended grill situated on a first-floor apartment's deck. With one unit taking on considerable damage and another adversely affected by smoke, the event consolidated itself not merely as a local disturbance but also as a somber reminder of the potential hazards that can arise from seemingly mundane activities, such as a neighborhood barbecue. The fire managed to quickly envelop surrounding structures, thanks to the inadvertent fuel provided by the grill gone wild.
The American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming has stepped in to assist the displaced families, offering them aid in the wake of this unexpected tragedy. According to KKTV, one of the residents sustained injuries due to the fire. However, they were treated on-site by paramedics and subsequently released, avoiding what could have escalated into a far more grievous situation.
