Lakota Local Schools posted on Wednesday to expect a two-hour delay following a power outage affecting the district's Service Center and several schools. The announcement on their Facebook page cited transportation safety concerns due to inoperative radios, rendering buses unable to refuel or even to correctly map their routes for drivers. Lakota Schools addressed the disruption to the community, acknowledging the "major inconvenience for our families," as the fix implemented to bridge the gap before a significant upgrade was supposed to take place over Thanksgiving break failed to hold, according to a LOCAL12 report.
While this was not the first time for such an incident since the start of the new academic year, the delay impacts all district schools. Communications sent out to parents early in the morning explained the situation in more detail. "There are no radios for communication, no way for buses to refuel, nor can routes be shared with drivers," district officials explained in the email, as FOX19 reported. In accordance with the delay, half-day kindergarten, AM preschool, and Lakota Central AM classes were cancelled, though PM Preschool and PM Central classes were expected to proceed as normal.
Further disruption to student routines was signalled when the school district mentioned that parents would receive further communication via email regarding the details of the Wednesday delay. The district's statement, retrieved by WLWT, emphasizes the commitment to keeping the community informed and to monitor conditions closely.
