The Los Angeles Police Department has cracked down on a sophisticated burglary ring known as the "Shade Snatchers," responsible for a swath of high-end eyewear thefts. According to an official statement from LAPD, a group of ten suspects, including documented gang members and repeat offenders, have been implicated in the thefts which have resulted in approximately $2.68 million in losses, and nearly half a million in property damage across Los Angeles and Orange County.
The tactic of choice for the burglars was a "smash-and-grab" approach, employing stolen vehicles to breach the storefronts in the early morning hours, and then rapidly absconding with designer eyewear and other luxury items. Three adults and three juveniles have been arrested in the ongoing investigation that began between February and July of 2025, with bail amounts ranging from $500,000 to $1,225,000. The adult suspects are identified as Phillip T. Harris, Orlando D. Neal, and Rasheed Reed. In each crime, suspects were seen on surveillance footage, further corroborating their involvement.
The suspects face a total of 26 counts of Burglary and Grand Theft, along with additional firearm-related charges. Collaboration between LAPD and other local agencies, such as Manhattan Beach PD and Beverly Hills PD, was key in piecing together the crime spree. The meticulous review of video evidence and forensic analysis led to this significant breakthrough.
The case is being handled by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Organized Crime Section and remains active, with detectives pursuing leads on additional suspects and related crimes. The LAPD has encouraged the public to come forward with any information that might assist in the investigation. Anyone with details can reach out to Detective Colin Langsdale at the Commercial Crimes Division or Detective Brandon McConnell, of the North Hollywood Division, as stated in the LAPD's public announcement.
Surveillance footage capturing the suspects in the act has been shared on the LAPD Headquarters YouTube Channel, giving the public an insight into the burglaries. The department seeks further assistance and urges witnesses or those with information to contact LAPD directly or use the "P3 Tips" mobile application, aiming to apprehend any remaining members of the "Shade Snatchers" burglary ring.
