The City of Las Cruces is actively involving its citizens in the latest round of updates to its Downtown Master Plan, a strategic document that is key to shaping the future growth and development of the city's core area. Through public meetings on October 22 and 24, residents, business liaisons, and various stakeholders have had, and will have the opportunity to provide their feedback and contribute to the shaping of their city's heart.

As reported by the City of Las Cruces, an Open House was already held on Wednesday morning to allow people to drop in and get a look at draft concepts, discuss with planners, and make their voices heard. Notably, the Closing Presentation has been relocated from Amador Live to take place at the City Hall Council Chambers, 700 N. Main Street, on Friday, and aims to summarize the week's findings.

Chris Faivre, Director of Community Development, emphasized the importance of the update process. "This update isn't about starting over," he explained. It’s about "fine-tuning what we've already achieved and ensuring downtown continues to reflect the needs and character of Las Cruces," as per the City of Las Cruces. In essence, the plan is not looking for a reinvention, but rather, a reassessment and enhancement of current strategies.

Engagement from the community is seen as crucial in this undertaking. From local businesses to neighborhood associations, feedback is being sourced to gauge the present dynamics and to prioritize future actions. The planning team is set to conduct these conversations before formulating the next phase of the Downtown Master Plan Update. The plan remains a central component for guiding land use, design, mobility, and economic development aimed at fostering downtown Las Cruces as a destination for commerce, culture, and community interaction.
