Lieutenant Robert Price of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police mentioned in an email that the homicide was reported within the boundaries of the park, a large 214-acre recreational area. Despite the recent safety measures, including the installation of gates at six vehicle entrances, which aim to denote park hours and increase safety clearly, a life was claimed overnight before the gates came into full effect. As reported by News 3, Clark County officials had intentions for these gates "to reinforce that the park is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and closed overnight." County Commissioner Jim Gibson expressed, "These new gates will help to ensure that activities that challenge the safety of the park in the overnight hours are mitigated as much as possible and represent another resource the County has put in place to increase park safety for the betterment of our community."
