Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue team sprang into action Sunday evening to save two climbers trapped on a route known as "Prince of Darkness" within the stark confines of Black Velvet Canyon. As detailed in a post on the LVMPD SAR's official Instagram account, the rescue took place at a daunting height after the climbers got stuck when their rope became tangled.
The climbers, both of whom were seasoned in their pursuits, had attempted several times to liberate their rope without success. In response to the precarious situation, the SAR dispatched AIR1 with personnel onboard to assist in the rescue efforts. The post outlined that the SAR team worked in concert with two Leading Climb volunteers, a synergy of expertise and bravery taking to the skies above the rugged terrain.
Rescuers worked carefully to bring the climbers to safety. SAR officers and volunteers reached them and prepared for a hoist operation, after which AIR1 airlifted the climbers back to the Late Night Trailhead below.
