Mountain residents in Boulder County have only a few opportunities left this year to rid their properties of excess branches, logs, and forest detritus without charge. Boulder County Community Forestry Sort Yards are wrapping up their 2025 season, giving locals a last chance to dispose of their tree-related waste.
Two sites are currently operating, the Meeker Park and Nederland Sort Yards, but the clock is ticking for those needing to drop off their organic material. According to Boulder County, the Meeker Park location at 8200 Hwy 7, Allenspark, will close on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m. Its operation hours are from Wednesday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Nederland Sort Yard, located at 291 Ridge Road, Nederland, will follow suit, closing on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m., with the same hours of operation.
The sort yard program provides a significant community service, allowing residents to dispose of their tree branches, logs, and forest litter, such as pine needles and pine cones, at no cost. This contributes not only to individual property maintenance but also to broader forest health and wildfire mitigation efforts.
