A two-story single-family dwelling in Historic South-Central erupted in flames earlier today, prompting a swift response from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Initial reports of the structure fire at 190 W 40th Pl were posted online at 10:49 AM by the department, showing smoke emerging from the first floor of the residence. The incident, recorded as INC#0670, drew an offensive assault from fire service personnel.
According to the LAFD alert, the blaze was significant enough to warrant an urgent mode of attack with multiple fire engines and teams dispatched to the scene. Among them were E14, E15, E21, E215, E233, E33, E46, along with Battalion Chiefs 11 and 13, and tactical teams T15 and T33. Emergency medical teams RA21, RA46, and RA815 were also part of the response team to manage any potential injuries.
The effort to quell the blaze proved effective. Within 22 minutes, the 46 firefighters on scene had achieved "KNOCKDOWN" of the fire, fully extinguishing the flames that had taken hold of both the garage and the home's first floor. A follow-up announcement at LAFD's website stated that walls and attic spaces were checked for fire spread and were "deemed to be clear." Notably, the firefighting team was able to complete their work without any reports of injuries.
The origin of the fire remains under investigation, as the cause has yet to be identified. Firefighters will continue to inspect the scene to determine the inception point of the blaze and assess any possible risks for such incidents occurring in the future.
