Early Monday morning, a convenience store robbery escalated into a confrontation in Downtown Seattle, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old man. According to the Seattle Police Department, the suspects—one man and one woman—entered a 7-Eleven store on the 800 block of 3rd Avenue and stole beer and ice cream. The incident took a violent turn when the woman struck an employee several times with a dog leash to prevent him from recovering the stolen items.
The situation grew more chaotic when the suspects briefly left and then returned to the scene, with the woman chasing the employee around the store, continuing to assault him with the dog leash and causing damage to the property. Before the arrival of the police, the duo fled the scene with a large white dog in tow. A Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) analyst monitoring community space cameras located the suspects near the 600 block of South King Street and provided pictures and direction of travel to the responding officers.
Upon engaging the suspects, the woman managed to elude the police while the man was detained after a "brief scuffle," as stated in the police report. Officers recovered a firearm and a can of beer from the man. "Police booked the suspect into the King County Jail for Robbery, Unlawful Carry of a Pistol, and Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer," the SPD Blotter detailed. Backup was coordinated by the RTCC, ensuring the officers had the support needed during the arrest.
The second suspect—the woman involved in the initial altercation—remains at large. Detectives from the Robbery Unit are now overseeing the investigation. This incident highlights a continued effort by the Seattle Police Department to utilize technology, such as the network of community space cameras, in apprehending suspects and ensuring safety in public areas. Community members are encouraged to come forward with any details that could lead to the capture of the second suspect.
