Earlier this morning, tragedy struck near the intersection of 28th and Lisbon in Milwaukee when a 54-year-old man died after his vehicle crashed into a building. Milwaukee Police are investigating the incident which occurred just before 1 a.m. CBS 58 reported that the driver, Malcolm Malone, Sr., was heading east on Lisbon Avenue when he suddenly veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the structure.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, as cited by CBS 58, raised the possibility of a medical event preceding the accident. Malone did not sustain fatal injuries from the impact itself; instead, he was pronounced dead at the scene. As detailed by FOX6, no further details about the cause of the crash or Malone's identity were initially provided, as the investigation continues to unfold.
Adding to the account of the crash, WISN 12 News reported on witnesses present at the scene described how Malone's vehicle's OnStar system automatically initiated an emergency response. One witness recounted the efforts to save Malone, stating, "The first guy that to the car first got him to lay back while the OnStar lady was telling us to give him CPR." The source expressed the difficulty of the situation, "We just couldn't get it with the way he collided and was sitting in the car and the way the seat was leaned back because the seat was broken."
According to the same WISN 12 News report, the Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that the building struck by the truck was vacant at the time of the incident, fortunately preventing additional casualties. In a poignant personal touch to the story, Malone's son, Malcolm Malone Jr., told WISN 12 News, "He was a very loving person." He added, "I talked to him every day, so it's just a real shock to lose him all of a sudden. It just hurts a lot," bringing a human perspective to the statistics of traffic fatalities.
The Milwaukee police have yet to conclude their investigation. Meanwhile, the community near 28th and Lisbon grapples with the sudden loss of one of their own, underscoring the impermanence that we navigate daily.
